MaxFunCon Tickets on Sale Now
Every year, I put together a special gathering in the mountains of Southern California. It’s called MaxFunCon.
It’s part comedy festival - last year we had the Upright Citizens Brigade, Greg Behrendt, Maria Bamford and others. It’s part creativity retreat - we have classes in film making and songwriting and crafting and other stuff. It’s part convocation of like-minded people - the air just crackles with intelligence and kindeness and friendships new and old.
The 2012 edition will be June 1st-3rd, and tickets have just gone on sale. Last year, they sold out by the new year, so if you’d like to come, grab your spot now. I hope to see you at MaxFunCon.
(Above, by the way, a Deranged Millionaire, Mr. John Hodgman, delivers our benediction.)

    Podcast: Jordan, Jesse, Go!

    hollywoodartcritic:

    Jordan Morris and Jesse Thorn

I’ve been listening to a lot of the podcast called Jordan, Jesse Go! lately, and I’m a bit uncertain as to why. Certainly the show has its enjoyable qualities, which would encourage an occasional — or even weekly — listen. It consists of about an hour of gabbing between two friends. The first is Jesse Thorn, who also hosts The Sound of Young America, a very good interview show that, from the sound of things, may soon be changing its name. The second is Jordan Morris, a comic performer and occasional television show personality. The two have spent years making each other laugh, starting with a radio show at their college radio at UC-Santa Cruz, and so the show is regularly funny. They have frequent guests, often drawn from LA’s standup comedy community, a community that Jordan and Jesse could fairly be described as being boosters of. The results tend to be an atypically entertaining conversation between friends, at least in part because both Jordan and Jesse have great curiosity about the world, and like to discuss whatever is puzzling them the most at the moment.

Jordan, Jesse Go! Ep. 196: Bird Play with Elizabeth Laime

Jesse:  Your hair has a certain sinuous sexuality.
Jordan:  Yeah! It's like a head full of genital-biting snakes.
Jesse:  You're like a male medusa.

Make Your Thing in London
So, I do this talk sometimes called “Make Your Thing,” about the process of creating independent media in the internet world. I share what I think are the essential ingredients for success (specifically my 12-Point System for Absolutely Positively 1000% Guaranteed Success), along with examples of creators, like Felicia Day and Killer Mike, who use those strategies.
I’m bringing the talk to London on November 16th. Besides me, the show will also feature an introduction from my very funny pal Josie Long (pictured above). Afterwards, there will be carousing. Tickets are cheap and it’s a very small place, so if you want to come, buy a ticket now.

This video features many of my favorite things, such as my friend and colleague John Hodgman, Dick Cavett and DERANGED MILLIONAIRE STYLE.

BARE FEET AND ASCOTS ARE HAVING A MOMENT THIS SEASON.

It is tremendously important that you purchase John’s final book in his trilogy of all world knowledge, THAT IS ALL.

San Francisco: The Business Comedy @ The Darkroom Theater

    jordanmorris:

Hey San Francisco and the surrounding area!  I’ll be doing a rare set of stand up comedy at this great show tomorrow night.  Come and laugh and tell me where the good bars near the theater are.

Hey gang! I’m hosting a MaxFun meetup on Thursday night in St. Petersburg, Florida. I’ll be in town for TEDxPoynter Institute, a one-day conference on the future of journalism. (BTW: if you’re a student, call them and they’ll let you into the conference for $25.)
So: a quick meetup, 8:30-10PM, at Crowley’s Downtown, 269 Central Avenue North. Dress will be casual, the people will be friendly. Sorry about the late notice, but frankly St. Petersburg, you should be happy I’ve forgiven you for trying to steal the Giants.

    The Comedy Club in LA

If you’re in Southern California, I hope you’ll join me Friday night for The Comedy Club. It’s a new comedy night at the Ice House in Pasadena, hosted by Jordan Morris and me (Jesse Thorn). Our lineup is pretty epic: Marc Maron is headlining, and we’ve also got the brilliant Al Madrigal, the hilarious Chris Fairbanks and DC Pierson of Derrick Comedy. These are comics we hand-picked for this show - there is no fat here, all muscle.

So: if you live in SoCal, and you don’t come, you’re officially on my shit list. That’s all there is to it.

    Buy your tickets now.
