Me! Talking!
I’ve been lucky enough to guest on some awesome podcasts recently. Here’s a handy guide:
Adam Carolla - Perhaps the most nervous I’ve ever been for any performance. I’ve been listening to Carolla in various capacities for as long as I can remember and I think he’s a genuine genius at talking. The tricky part of being a Carolla guest is not getting overwhelmed by the rant tsunami. I think Jesse and I did a pretty good job of jumping while still letting the Ace Man do his semi-xenophobic thing.
The Indoor Kids - This video game podcast from Kumail Nanjiani is only a few episodes old, but you can already tell it’s going to be a monster. Kumail is one of the funniest stand ups working today and he’s really passionate about games. Usually video game podcasts are kind of…not smart, but Kumail and co. do it right. The Todd Levin episode is fantastic.
How Did This Get Made? -Paul Scheer, June Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas talk bad movies in a really great way. It’s not (very) mean and really embraces what’s fun about watching a disaster on purpose. We gab about Skyline (now available on Netflix Instant) and I give a detailed account of my experience saying two lines in All About Steve.
Earwolf Challenge - A kind of “Top Chef” for podcasts, hosted by the great Matt Besser. Honestly, I hadn’t listened to the show before being asked to be a guest, and I kind of just thought the whole thing would be a goof, but it honestly looks a what makes a podcast good and what’s unique about the medium. I’m hooked and can’t wait to see who wins.
The Sound of Young America - I filled in for Jesse while he was out on Daddy Business. Here’s my interviews with Paul Scheer and Bruce Campbell. It was a challenge going from my day job where I make fun of interviews to doing a real, thoughtful interview where I talk to someone for more than four minutes. Thanks to Jesse and his crack staff, I think these turned out great.
